Communications Intern - Washington Redskins (Ashburn, VA)

The Washington Redskins Communications Department offers summer, season-long and spring internships.  The internships are designed for either undergraduate or graduate students and are unpaid positions.  All candidates must be able to receive course-credit for the internship.  The intern will have the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of a National Football League communications staff while working as a member of the department and assisting in its day-to-day functions. 

            Interns must be able to work extended hours including some nights and weekends.  A background in public/media relations or sports management is strongly encouraged.  Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills.  The intern will be required to participate in a mandatory background check and drug testing at the beginning of the internship. 

Spring Internship Responsibilities (January – May)

  • Oversee daily newspaper clips and their distribution.

  • Assist in transcribing quotes during the Draft, Mini Camp and OTAs.

Director of Operations - Washington Redskins (Landover, MD)

The Director of Operations provides professional support in the planning, organization and management of the Operations department focusing on all events and logistics at FedExField, Redskins Park and related to the Washington Redskins team. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Direct and supervise all aspects of Operations including event setup, gameday logistics, sponsor operations and the fan experience
  • Coordinate with other departments and related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operations of events
  • Implement and update facility rules, regulations, policies and SOP’s
  • Provide clear, concise and timely communication of directives to all departments within the organization
  • Oversee building scheduling for events, construction and other major projects
  • Know and ensure all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed
  • Oversees adherence to multiple Operating Budgets throughout the year including Redskins Games, Training Camp, Draft Day, and other major events
  • Negotiates contracts with vendors, contractors and service providers
  • Manages and approves bi-weekly payroll for Operations and Guest Services department
  • Oversees all events at FedExField and Redskins Parks from small corporate events to Redskins Games and other Major Events such as Concerts, College Football, etc..
  • Oversee operation of Training Camp in Richmond Virginia. 
  • Manages storage, issuance and tracking of all credentials for events at FedExField
  • Conduct walk throughs with visiting teams, collegiate AD’s, promoters  and staff in prep for Major Events at FedExField
  • Review all Event Orders and Event Timelines prior to being distributed to ensure a quality and complete event plans
  • Assists Security Manger with overseeing the Guest Services staffing program
  • Attends Manager & Captains meetings prior to all Major Events to ensure information is properly disseminated to Event Staff
  • Oversees management of ISS (incident management software) and ABI (payroll and scheduling software)
  • Travels when needed to away games, Super Bowl, and other offsite events
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Requirements

  • This individual must be a well-established leader and professional with a minimum of 5-7 years of industry experience in a senior management level position within a Stadium or Arena. 
  • They must have a proven track record of managing and leading large scale facility operations with a diverse workforce. 
  • Must have significant experience in the following areas:  contract negotiations, supervising personnel, supervising live entertainment productions, purchasing procedures, and event management. 
  • The incumbent must be able to perform effectively under significant pressure typically associated with meeting the demands and timetables of the industry. 
  • Must demonstrate business acumen with a client/customer service focus, and ability to communicate effectively in both written and public speaking forums.

Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation - Health & Wellness Programs Intern - Washington Redskins (Ashburn, VA)

The Washington Redskins are seeking a qualified individual to join the Community Relations/Charitable Foundation Department as an intern. The right individual will be able to work as part of a team or individually. The ideal candidate will be able to receive college credit for a semester- long internship experience. This is a full-time internship (40 hours a week).

 

Overview of Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation and Community Relations Department

The Redskins Charitable Foundation is ever-present in the community, constantly working to achieve our mission to make a positive and measurable impact in the lives of children that need it most.

Since Redskins owners Dan and Tanya Snyder created the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation in 2000, we have given back nearly $20MM to the community and currently provide support and services to more than 190,000 individuals (mostly children) annually, focusing on supporting education, children’s health and wellness and preparing them for their future.

 

Internship Responsibilities

Assisting in the coordination and implementation of Charitable Foundation and Community Relations Department youth health & wellness programs and events including, but not limited to:

·          Coordinate and execute projects and events for the Redskins FITT program, a health and wellness initiative targeted towards local middle school students

·          Assist with the execution of Play 60 and Fuel Up to Play 60 programs and events

·          Youth Football initiatives including but not limited to flag football events, mini-combines and high school football activations

·          Local school and non-profit research

·          Other weekly, monthly and annual Charitable Foundation and Community Relations programs as assigned

Intern Candidate Requirements:

  • Full-time undergraduate/graduate student
  • Candidate MUST receive college credit in order to qualify for this internship – proof of credit letter from your College or University is required
  • Polite, positive, self-starter who works well with others
  • Excellent communication & interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Can work independently when given a task and have the focus to follow through & follow-up if problems arise
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite proficient)
  • Proactive in asking questions when needed
  • Team player, humble enough to handle a variety of tasks; no job beneath them
  • Ability to handle physical requirements of job including setting up equipment for events and other light to medium lifting
  • Ability to interact with players, staff, and the community in a professional manner
  • Proven experience to appropriately work with and around confidential information is necessary
  • Must have reliable transportation

Washington Redskins Digital Media Intern - Washington Redskins (Ashburn, VA)

The Washington Redskins are seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to support the Digital Media department as an intern, with the primary focus on daily HTML maintenance and design for Redskins.com and related digital assets.

The right individual must take great pride in their work and pay strong attention to detail. Applicant must have a strong technical knowledge of website development and understanding of website standards and digital trends. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, while keeping organized and maintaining high standards in all work. Needs to be able to work as part of a team or individually.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Daily editing of content and design of subpages on Redskins.com and other Redskins microsites including RedskinsPremiumClub.com, RedskinsSpecialEvents.com, RedskinsHealthandWellness.com, and RedskinsKidsClub.com
  • Creation of sponsor dedicated subpages, content and integration on Redskins.com
  • Manage and monitor spam and commenting modules on Redskins.com
  • Support the execution of vision and strategy for best-in-class NFL club site
  • Develop marketing e-newsletters and email campaigns
  • Ability to turn designs into functional web applications
  • Assist with creation of photo galleries, as well as photo editing for stories, ads and features across all Redskins digital assets
  • Research ways to improve the design, navigation and fan experience on Redskins.com and other team microsites
  • Track and monitor website analytics and help find areas for improvement
  • Assist with ad banner trafficking and monitoring on Redskins.com, including generating performance reports for sponsors and the Redskins marketing team
  • Maintain quality assurance and usability testing
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and foursquare
  • Assist with Redskins Rally program including management of bar database, overseeing merchandise inventory, and maintenance of RedskinsRally.com
  • Assist Digital Media Analyst with weekly gathering and reporting of site metrics
  • Assist with other duties as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of HTML (2+ years)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, including Dreamweaver and Photoshop
  • Understanding of CMS tools and how they relate to the published product
  • Basic understanding of SEO best practices
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Detail-oriented and strong organization and project management skills
  • Polite, positive, self-starter who works well with others
  • Strong knowledge of sports and football
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Above average computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) are required
  • Experience with CSS, Flash, JavaScript, and video editing (ie iMovie) a plus.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to receive college credit and have completed course work in the field of Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Advertising, or a related field
  • Must provide own means of transportation to Redskins Park in Ashburn, Virginia
