Corporate Counsel - USA Football (Indianapolis, In)

Summary:  USA Football is seeking an attorney to serve as a full-time Corporate Counsel. In this in-house counsel role, the attorney will help to limit risk exposure to the organization by ensuring that all activities comply with relevant legal standards and requirements. This position reports to the General Counsel.    

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate, review, and draft contracts with third parties including sponsors, vendors, consultants, facilities, and licensing partners. Will be primary legal liaison to events department.
  • Assist in the implementation of a risk management program in coordination with USA Football’s outside risk management advisor.
  • Work with membership department to drive compliance with membership requirements, including review of insurance documents.
  • Enforce intellectual property rights.
  • Draft and review prize promotion rules.
  • Develop internal policies and procedures (e.g., document retention policy).
  • Supervise legal interns.
  • Provide legal advice to leadership team and staff on a range of topics.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree and J.D. degree required.

Work Experience:  One to three years relevant legal experience. Coursework or experience in contract drafting and trademark enforcement strongly preferred. Must be admitted to Indiana bar or eligible for admission. Knowledge and understanding of non-profit organizations, especially amateur sport operations, is a plus.

Skills: Strong organizational, strategic planning, communication, and negotiation skills are necessary. Excellent legal writing and oral communication skills are required. This position will serve a number of USA Football programs and departments, so the ability to work across departments and meet deadlines is also necessary.


  • Full-time, exempt position located in USA Football’s Indianapolis office.
