INTERN- Corporate Communications - Detroit Lions (Detroit, MI)

Internship Summary:
The Detroit Lions Corporate Communications department is accepting applications for an intern. This position’s primary function is supporting media and PR outreach for team’s business and philanthropic efforts as well as the Quick Lane Bowl.

Hours/Duration of Position:
This is a full-time internship working approximately 35-40 hours per week. The internship would begin late July and end in mid to late January 2016. This position is based at Ford Field in downtown Detroit, Michigan and is a paid position. Candidates must provide own housing and transportation to and from Allen Park and Ford Field. Preference will be given to local candidates

Intern Duties:
• Work closely with the Corporate Communications Coordinator to communicate key information and messaging regarding cause-marketing, business and non-football events in addition to the Quick Lane Bowl.
• Assist with the publishing of community and cause-marketing related web and social media collateral.
• Assist with writing of website stories, internal communications, press releases and other communications.
• Assist with researching editorial opportunities, pitching stories and conducting media outreach.
• Responsible for preparing clip reports, recaps and summaries as needed.
• Act as an onsite media contact at community, cause-marketing, business and non-football events and the Quick Lane Bowl as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
• The preferred candidate has at least completed their junior year of college
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with a flexible schedule, including being available for major scheduled events on nights, weekends and holidays
• Must provide own transportation and housing
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Must have knowledge of or willing to learn to use media database software.
• Desired candidate should have experience working in public relations, sports information, journalism or with a sports organization

Must be willing and able to successfully pass a background check

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
• Ability to reach, bend, sit and/or stand, climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl

INTERN - Digital Media - Detroit Lions (Allen Park, MI)

The Detroit Lions currently have an opening for a Digital Media Intern in the Digital Media Department. The Intern will have the opportunity to learn about and assist in the operation and upkeep of Detroitlions.com and its communication between the Lions organization and the public.

Hours/Duration of Position:

This Digital Media Internship is a short-term 40-hours-per-week paid position that will run from mid-July 2015 through mid-January 2016. Candidates must have the ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of this position which will include working major scheduled events on nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is based in the Detroit Lions Training Facility in Allen Park, MI. but may require travel to Ford Field.

Candidates must provide own housing and transportation to and from Allen Park and Ford Field. Preference will be given to local candidates

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily and long-term maintenance of Detroitlions.com, including page updates, article posts and video posts

  • Record interviews, transcribe and edit for Detroitlions.com

  • Assist in producing site photography and photo galleries

  • Other duties as assigned


    Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed Bachelor’s degree in Website management, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or Communications

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Poise and the ability to present him or herself to others with professionalism and maturity

  • An energetic and self-motivated attitude

  • Comfortable speaking with professional athletes and coaches in both a work setting and within the context of an interview

  • Candidates should have experience in the areas of communications, journalism, written communication and basic web and graphic design

  • Experience with Adobe web elements (e.g. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator) strongly preferred

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer) required

Communications: Media/Public Relations Servicing
Seasonal Media Relations Assistant - Tennessee Titans (Nashville, TN)

Responsibilities:

  • Arranges player interviews with media outlets

  • Conducts research for game releases

  • Files photos and news clippings

  • Responsible for sections of weekly game packet

  • Helps assemble and distribute weekly release

  • Helps in press box on game days

  • Assists with the media credential process

  • Pulls, compiles and distributes daily news clippings

  • Transcribes press conferences

  • Periodically writes articles for team’s website

  • General office work to include office supply ordering, filing, etc.

Requirements:

  • Degree in public relations, communications, journalism or a related field preferred

  • Athletic media relations experience or collegiate newspaper experience preferred

  • Basic understanding of football

  • Must have excellent writing, communication and proofreading skills

  • Able to work flexible hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays
